Head of Global Distribution and Managing Director
William Mac “Carter” Sims is head of global distribution for Thornburg Investment Management. He is responsible for leading the sales and distribution efforts across the company’s institutional, intermediary, and international lines of business.
Prior to joining Thornburg, Carter was the head of U.S. intermediary distribution at Schroder Investment Management, North America, where he lead the business strategy for all functional teams including sales, key accounts, and marketing. Additionally, Carter oversaw all marketing and communications across the intermediary, institutional, and consultant relations channels.
Over Carter’s extensive career, he has also held senior leadership positions at several firms including, Columbia Asset Management, Bank of America, Gartmore Global Partners, Fidelity Investments, and PNC Bank.
Carter received a BS in finance from Boston College and holds the FINRA Series 24, 26, 7, 6, and 63 registrations. He also completed the Securities Industry Institute Leadership program at Penn’s Wharton School. Additional training includes SPIN Selling, Conceptual Selling, and IMPACT Performance Leadership and Negotiation.
Divisional Sales Manager
Jesse Brownell is divisional sales manager for Thornburg Investment Management. He was elected managing director in 2020. Previous to his current position, Jesse served as regional consultant for Thornburg. His prior experience includes serving as regional director for Highland Capital Management and regional consultant for Hartford Funds. Before entering the financial services industry, Jesse played professional baseball with the Colorado Rockies.
Jesse received his BS from the University of Iowa. He is currently registered with FINRA with a Series 6 and 66.
Head of Strategic Relationships
Joe Feloney is the head of strategic relationships for Thornburg Investment Management. He is responsible for leading home office efforts designed to further partnerships with Thornburg’s intermediary distribution partners.
Previously, Joe was a managing director at Jackson with the specialized Private Wealth & Trust team. Prior to that, Joe was the head of private wealth management, sub-advised, and investment-only divisions for Columbia Threadneedle Investments. In this role, he led the private banking, RIA, defined contribution, and insurance-focused teams. Before that, he was responsible for offshore activities in Europe and Japan. In addition to a variety of business development and relationship management roles, Joe has held senior-level financial and operational roles, including interim chief financial officer for one of the Columbia Threadneedle Investments legacy firms, which he joined in 1987.
Joe received a B.S.B.A. from Northeastern University and an MBA with a concentration in finance and investments from Bentley College. In addition, he holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst and Certified Investment Management Analyst® designations.
Head of Institutional Advisor Channel
William (Bill) Loehning joined Thornburg in March of 2018 as head of institutional advisor channel, focusing on registered investment advisors, family offices, and bank trust. He has extensive experience working with all parts of the advisor community.
Prior to joining Thornburg, Bill was a senior advisor consultant with Putnam Investments, focused on the Northeast. Before that, Bill served as a regional marketing director for The Hartford, covering the wirehouses in New England and as a regional representative for John Hancock for the independent channel in the Chicago area. Bill has a BA in economics from Colgate University and is registered with FINRA with a Series 6, 7, 24, 63, and 65. He lives in Barrington, Rhode Island, with his wife, Lauren, and children, Will, Harper and Eve. He enjoys skiing, boating, golf, and coaching his kids.
Head of Client and Digital Strategies
David Rentfrow is head of client and digital strategies for Thornburg Investment Management. He joined Thornburg in 2018 as head of internal sales and continues to lead the internal intermediary sales team. In 2019, his role expanded to include responsibilities across all global distribution channels. David has more than 25 years of investment management distribution expertise.
David was a managing director and head of distribution for Crossmark Global Investments. Prior to this, he spent more than a decade at BlackRock, Inc., where, as a managing director, he led high-performing teams that worked to fulfill client needs, utilizing a broad array of financial instruments, including mutual funds, ETFs, separately managed accounts, and alternative investments. David also spent time at Merrill Lynch and Manulife Financial.
Raised in California and Illinois, David holds a BA in communications from Eastern Illinois University and a master’s degree in international business from Webster University in St. Louis. He holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation and is registered with FINRA with a Series 24, 7, and 66.
David resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with his wife Susan. He and his wife, Susan, have one son, Sage. In his spare time, he is an avid outdoor enthusiast and horseman and serves on the executive board of The Horse Shelter.
Divisional Sales Manager
Andrew Rice is divisional sales manager for Thornburg Investment Management. Before his current position, he was a regional consultant for Thornburg. Andrew’s prior experience includes serving as the regional director for AFBA 5 Star Investment Management and as an internal wholesaler for AIM Investments.
Andrew received his BS in finance and economics from Texas A&M. He received the Certified Investment Management Analyst® designation from the Investment Management Consultants Association and is currently registered with FINRA with a Series 7 and 66.
